Martha Ann Henderson
Martha was born in 1932 in Reynoldsville, the daughter of the late James Alfred Ellison and Celestia Vale Perine Ellison.
Her husband, Glenn Henderson, passed away in 2015.
She is survived by her six children, Johnny Glenn Henderson, Fairmont, Sharon Ann Husty and husband Joe, Fairmont, Charlotte Jean Layman and husband Curtis, Richmond, Texas, Marsha Kim Hudkins, Fairmont, Thomas Bruce Henderson, Worthington and Kathy Denise Henderson, Fairmont; two step-daughters, Glenna Ann Henderson, Hutchinson and Dee Ella Wallace, Clarksburg; seven grandchildren, Johna Henderson, Thomas Henderson, Tina Gill, Terry Gill, Holly Hudkins, Danielle Jones and her husband Ronnie and Loran Lowdermilk and her husband Chris; six great-grandchildren, Eric Everhart, Ana Everhart, Jade Quesada, Jordan Henderson, Eden Rose Lowdermilk and Owen James Lowdermilk; one great great-grandchild, Aubriana Lee Everhart; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Henderson Salisbury and Regina Ellison; and several Ellison and Henderson nieces and nephews, and cousins; as well as many friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her four brothers, Norman (Jimmy) D. Ellison and his wife Winifred, Merritt E. Ellison, William (Bill) R. Ellison and Marvin (Dick) R. Ellison; son-in-law, Mason Scott Hudkins; and daughter-in-law, Barbara McIntire Henderson.
She retired from Fairmont State University Food Services in 1997. Martha's reason for being were her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her children's spouses, Joe, Curt, Scott and Barbara, for enriching her children's and her life. Whether for family or friends, she paid special attention to their likes so that her shopping excursions and cooking habits were centered on those likes. Once she knew what your favorite dish was, it was prepared for you for family get-togethers or holidays or just because she was thinking of you. She was known by her family and friends as a great cook and a devoted friend, and everyone she touched reciprocated. She treasured the regular lunches with her FSU friends. Throughout her life, she was the quiet friend who often did errands or assisted others with shopping or doctors appointments. In the last several months, she made special efforts to visit with nieces and nephews and cousins or they made special efforts to visit with her. During her recent illness, daughters Sharon and Kathy, with assistance from grandson Tom, were her constant companions, caregivers and managers of her care.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Perine officiating. Martha chose that her remains be cremated.
