Loretta's Story

Loretta Virginia Volek, 88, of Rivesville, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2017) in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Marion County, on April 21, 1929, one of 13 children born to the late Roy Shipley and Lillian Rebecca (Smith) Shipley.
Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She was fondly known as Bam by her grandchildren.
In addition, she had worked at the Ross Nursing Home in Fairmont for 15 years. She was a member of St. Peters the Fisherman Roman Catholic Church and attended Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved canning, cooking and caring for her family.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Paul and Freda Volek of Montana Mines; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet Martin of Rivesville and Valeria Tutalo and husband Jeff of Grafton; eight grandchildren, Christine Russell, Joyce Sypolt and husband Jeff, Jonie Wisenbaler, Billie Jo Volek, Crystal Ebert and husband Tim, Mark Russell, Angela Kucish and husband Andy, and Jennifer Tutalo; her great-grandchildren, Kayla Russell, Justin Sypolt, Lori Volek, Tessa Wisenbaler, Jeffery Wisenbaler, Rachel Salina, Jason Ebert, Blake Kucish, Wesley Kucish and Sophia Carpenter; and her best friend, Patty Ribic.
Also surviving are her brothers, Edward Lee (Nancy) Shipley of Sanford, Douglas (Greta) Shipley of Montana Mines, John (Charlotte) Shipley of Farmington and Jessie Shipley of San Diego, California; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William John Volek; her son, William John Volek Jr.; brothers, Philip David Shipley Sr., Thomas F. Shipley, Donald Shipley, Dave Shipley, Bobby Shipley and Claude "Sonny" Shipley; and sisters, Mary Redmond, Beatrice Flowers and Betty Hopkins.
The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice for their loving care and comfort of Loretta.
Friends and family may call from 1-8 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Deacon David Lester officiating. Committal services will follow at the Arnettsville Cemetery.
