Lee's Story

Lee Reger died peacefully at United Hospital Center on June 21, 2017, at the age of 68 surrounded by his loving family.
Lee is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 40 years, Phyllis; daughters, Renee Kissella and her husband John of Lumberport, Rebecca Pilger and her husband Bill of Morgantown, Susan Buzzard and her husband Kevin of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; son, Stanley Toothman and his wife, Cathy of Mannington; sister, Kay Gallagher and her husband John of Winslow, Arkansas; brother, Mark Reger and his wife Anna of St. Albans; grandchildren, Jacob and Nathan Kissella, Joe Toothman, Dillon O'Dell, Andrew and Aaron Pilger, Eli and Emery Buzzard; great-granddaughters, Lillian and Adreonna Toothman; and his cat, Glady.
Lee was born on Aug. 5, 1948, in Schenectady, New York, to Wray and Elizabeth Richardson Reger. He graduated from Shinnston High School in 1966. He married the love of his life in 1977 at Stringtown Methodist Church.
In 1985 he founded Lee Reger Builds Inc., where he worked until his retirement in 2012. He served on Shinnston City Council, SADA, Little League, Kiwanis, United Way, Master Gardeners, National Frame Builders Association Chairman, Shinnston Community Garden, American Lung Association, Rails to Trails and Relay for Life. Lee's contributions can be seen throughout the beautiful state of West Virginia, which he dearly loved. Lee hiked with the Sierra Club and traveled with Road Scholars. He was an avid traveler and visited all 50 states. He was a generous and witty individual, who loved traveling, wood carving, his family, his community and life. He was passionate about making the world a better place.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Kevin Buzzard officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Mausoleum.
