Lee D. Cutrone Jr. passed away Oct. 30, 2017, in Austin, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 19, 1947, in Fairmont, the son of the late Lee D. and Beatrice (Israel) Cutrone.
Lee was a 1969 graduate of Fairmont State University with a bachelor of arts degree, where he was named Alumnus of Achievement in 1996. He received a master's in public and international affairs at the University of Pittsburgh in 1974.
A proud member of the East Fairmont High School Class of 1965, Lee was active in student government, athletics and many school activities. He remained close to his classmates throughout the years and always enjoyed returning to Fairmont.
Proud of this military service, Lee served with distinction in the U.S. Army from 1970-1974, achieving a rank of 1st lieutenant in military intelligence and after active duty, continued to serve in the reserves until 1978.
Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, Lee pursued a career in international banking and finance, where he spent his entire professional life. He achieved executive-level management with Pittsburgh National Bank (PNC) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and ABN AMRO Bank in Pittsburgh and London, England.
In 1999, he became president of Compass Bank in Houston, Texas, and CEO and president trustmark of Houston from 2003-2006. Lee's work took him all over the world, and he loved meeting people and immersing himself in their language and culture.
Lee dedicated much of his time and talents to the communities where he worked and lived.
In Pittsburgh, he was a member of the board of directors for the Parent and Child Guidance Center, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) McGowan Institute and the Pittsburgh Opera, and he was a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, Class II.
In Houston, he served on the board of directors for St. Thomas University, The Boy Scouts of America-Sam Houston Area Council and the United Way-Houston.
Lee is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (Pasco) Cutrone; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Susanna Cutrone of Bee Cave, Texas; and son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Lauren Cutrone of Kyle, Texas. He was blessed by grandsons Nicholas, David and Samuel Cutrone, all of the Austin area. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Bernie Vingle; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Dan Radcliff; mother-in-law, Millie Talkington; and sister-in-law, Linda Knotts, all of Fairmont; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, at The Church of the Resurrection of the Lord, Emmaus Catholic Parish, 1718 Lohmans Crossing Road, Lakeway, Texas 78734 , with a reception immediately following in the Parish Life Center Great Hall.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family asks for support for a respite program that is so helpful and meaningful for those suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. Please make donation checks payable to Emmaus Catholic Parish with notation for the program, "Bright Horizons."
A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 28 in his hometown of Fairmont at Immaculate Conception Church, 329 Maryland Ave.
