Lake Junior Swisher, 93, of Lynchburg, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday (June 16, 2016). He was the loving husband of the late Oleta Genieve Swisher for 64 years.
He was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Fairmont.
He was a son of the late Beulah Cox Swisher and Lake Swisher.
Lake is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Snell of Lynchburg; a son, Larry W. Swisher and wife Nancy of Penn Laird, Virginia; two granddaughters, Shannon L. Carroll and husband Tom of Evington, Virginia, and Sarah E. Pond and husband Derek of Indiana; two grandsons, Bradley J. Snell and wife Michelle of Penn Laird, Virginia, and Nicholas A. Swisher of Elkton, Virginia; two great-granddaughters, Jessica L. Carroll of Evington, Virginia, and Ashley G. Snell of Penn Laird, Virginia; two great-grandsons, Daniel J. In addition to his wife, Lake was preceded in death by son-in-law, Ronnie J. Snell.
Lake served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during WWII. He lived in Fairmont until moving to Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2005.
His love of family was one of the most important things in his life. He was a truck driver who hauled a little of everything across this country. Having a big bass voice, he sang in a quartet and still enjoyed singing. He was an avid golfer in his younger days. A former member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Fairmont, Lake was attending Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. Lake will be remembered for having a "Big Heart" for those in need.
A graveside service will be conducted at a later date in Fairmont.
The family would like to thank the staff of Westminster Canterbury for the loving care given to Lake.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family, 434-237-9424.
