Lacy's Story

Lacy E. Neff, Jr., 49, of Fairmont, a longtime radio personality and program director for WVAQ in Morgantown, passed away Wednesday (June 1, 2016) at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts following a long, courageous battle with amyloidosis and multiple myeloma.
He was born in Summersville Aug. 18, 1966, a son of the late Lacy E. Neff, Sr. and the late Evelyn Marie Wills Dorsey; along with his stepfather, the late Charles E. Dorsey, Jr.
Lacy is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dana Marie (Bizik) Neff; three daughters, Devin Neff, Spencer Neff and Whitney O'Dell and her husband Dana; and two very special grandchildren, Meredith O'Dell and Chloe O'Dell.
Also surviving are two brothers, Gary Wayne Moore and his wife Jayne of Summersville and Dana "Tad" Ervin Moore and his wife Judy of Fairmont; four sisters, Hilda Jean Simmons and her husband Chuck of Fairmont, Naomi June Gooden of Ohio, Anita Marlene Rush and her husband Gary of Fairmont, and Lou Ann Proctor and her husband Randy of Fairmont; several caring nieces, nephews, many good and dear friends and supporters.
During his radio career, Lacy earned two National Marconi Awards, presented by the National Association of Broadcasters for Small Market Personality of the Year. He also led West Virginia Radio Corporation to three Marconi Awards. He was inducted into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2014. Along with his daily duties at WVAQ, he worked as a DJ at many dances and weddings. Family, friends and coworkers will remember Lacy as having an optimistic, energetic outlook on life. He inspired, encouraged and loved everyone who knew him. Lacy's family appreciates the wonderful support, sharing of memories and writings which his many friends and associates have shared with them throughout his illness.
Friends and family will be received from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert H. Mollohan Research Center located at 1000 Galliher Drive in Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Mollohan Center with Reverend Gary Moore and Reverend Kevin Cain officiating. Interment will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
