Kathleen's Story

Text size

Kathleen M. Cain, 96, of Route 3, Elkins, formerly of Watson community, passed away early Sunday morning in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She was born Nov. 26, 1921 in Fairmont, daughter of the late Mearl and Roxie LeHew Moran.
Being married 57 years, she was preceded in death by her husband Luther L. Cain, who died on Nov. 13, 1991. Kathleen was 14 years old when her father died. Being the oldest of four children, she took a leadership role, helping her siblings while their mother took a full-time secretarial job in Fairmont. Although this arrangement would probably not be permitted in our present society it seemed to have worked well.
When Kathleen graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1939, she and a few close friends started the JUG (Just Us Girls) Club. The group met monthly and endured until the ladies were well into their 80s. Eventually they allowed their husbands to join for a dinner meeting on occasion. Kathleen had worked at Owen-Illinois glass plant and was retired from Westinghouse in Fairmont. She was most happy when hosting one of her many cookouts for family and friends. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Watson.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Edward L. and Susan Cain of Elkins, five grandchildren, Mark L. and Suzanne Cain of Elkins, Katherine Cain of Summersville, Matthew and Carrie Cain of Monassas, Virginia, Michael Cain of Fairmont and Rebecca Cain of Morgantown, four great-grandchildren, Jared Cain of Elkins, Benjamin Cain of Monassas, Virginia, Bella Cain of Monassas, Virginia and Eli james Cain of Fairmont, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Cain of White Hall, a sister, Derotha Corbin of Fairmont, a sister-in-law, Maxine Moran of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, James L. Cain, a brother, Robert E. Moran, a sister, Louise Stewart and a grandchild, Kimberly Cain.
