Karl's Story

Karl L. Grim, formerly of Hundred, died peacefully Saturday evening (May 21, 2016) at his home in Fairmont.
Karl was born on Dec. 26, 1926 in New Freeport, PA, to John Walter Grim and Edith Hoy Grim.
He was raised in New Freeport prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Karl is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Leona (Taylor) Grim, and his four children and their families: Karlotta and Ed Hawkins of Fairmont, and her three children, Angela (Church) and Ray Blake and their daughter, Olivia, of Apex, NC, Ryan and Ame Church and their children, Rylee, Allie and Karson, of Fairmont, and Chris and Tina Church, both Major, U.S. Army, and their children, Gavin and Isabella, of Sanford, NC; Bruce Grim of Pine Grove and his family; Mike and Machelle Grim of Fellsmere, FL and Midlothian, VA; and Leigh Ann and Eduard Gonzalez, Captain, U.S. Navy, retired, and their children, Nathan, Analise, and Gabriel, of Virginia Beach, VA.
Also surviving are two sisters, Wilma Lemmon and Gladys Gaines. His parents and five brothers, Wilfred, Harold, Kenneth, Wayne and Robert are deceased.
Karl enjoyed fishing with family, and spending time with family and friends, especially lifelong friends John and Audrey Lavelle of Knob Fork.
Karl worked out of the Mannington, field office of CNG Transmission, now Dominion Transmission, and retired in December 1989 with 33 years of service. He was a long-time member of the Hundred VFD and United Emergency Unit, a former member of the Hundred city council, a member of the Earl Kiger American Legion Post 120, a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Patricks in Mannington and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont for the last 13 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Karl to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 204 Furbee Ave., Mannington, WV 26582, or Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred. The funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mannington, with the Rev. Father Vincy Sebastian Illickall officiating with burial to follow at Harmony Cemetery in Burton.
