Jonathan "Jon" Travis, 93, of Worthington, passed away Tuesday (April 4, 2017) at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born in Marion County, on Sept. 1, 1923, the son of the late Victor A. and Issie Mae Carpenter Travis.
Jon served as a paratrooper and technician fifth grade, with the 3rd Battalion 511th Parachute Infantry in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned several decorations and citations for his military service.
Jonathan retired as a union sheet metal worker. Jon will be remembered for his friendly smile, pleasant sense of humor and his enjoyment of family gatherings.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Watkins and her husband Christopher of Pickens, South Carolina; his son, Jay Edward Travis; and a grandson, Jason Watkins and his wife Barbara. Also surviving are his brother, Fred R. Travis Sr. of Bridgeport; four sisters, Victoria Hoey, Mary Sue Travis, Elaine Rogers and her husband James, and Donna Carpenter and her husband Terry all of Fairmont; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews, including a special niece, Norma Jean.
In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Marteney Travis Hugus, and his second wife, Irene Stecher Ellison Travis; a daughter, Delores Jean Travis; a sister, Venena Travis Maddox and her husband Charles; and a brother-in-law, Walter Hoey.

Friends and family may call from 6- 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, his body has been cremated.
