Johnnie "Slugger" Elza, 62, of Morgantown, passed away on Saturday (June 24, 2017) surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on Jan. 30, 1955, in Butte, Montana, to Mary Belle Elza and the late John Elza.
Johnnie is also survived by his son, Shawn C. Elza of Gypsy; daughter, Krystle J. Wolfe and her husband Travis of Morgantown; grandpuppy, "Red" of Morgantown; grandchildren, Crayton Elza, Mayson Elza and Eliza Wolfe; sister-in-law, Cathy C. Feaster of Littleton, Colorado; nephews, Christopher J. Feaster; Josh Harley, Dylan Higgins and Brody Knight; nieces, Misty Knight and her husband Bruce, Brandy Brooks and her husband Allen, Rebecca L. Feaster, Dakota Higgins and Raven Higgins.
In addition to his father, Johnnie is preceded by his former wife and friend, Robin Lynn Crayton Elza; sisters, Carol Jean Elza Fleece, and Mary Jane Elza Harley; and brother-in-law, Frederick J. Feaster.
Johnnie was an avid Harley Davidson rider and lover. He graduated from Shinnston High School in 1973. Johnnie retired as a coal miner from Robinson Run Mine. He enjoyed spending time with family, camping and gardening. Johnnie loved watching the Mountaineers, Packers and Steelers. He loved listening to rock music.
The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and Ciera Gidley, for their loving care.
Friends and family will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Harmer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday with Pastor David Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that those who can, wear Harley shirts and ride their motorcycles, in honor of Johnnie.
