Jerry's Story

Text size

Jerry Ray Pitzer, 81, of Fairmont, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday (May 28, 2016).
Jerry was born March 20, 1935, the son of the late Delbert Gay Pitzer and Rhoda "Inez" Pitzer of Farmington.
Jerry retired from AT&T (formerly Bell South) after many years of service. Prior to that, he served in the U.S. Army for four years, and part of that time he was stationed in Germany.
Jerry and his wife, Dora Ann, are owners of the Praise The Lord Store, which they opened in 1974.
Jerry's passions were worshipping Jesus, spending time with his family and being in the woods on his family farm. Jerry served as a worship leader at Trinity Assembly of God for many years, and he and Dora Ann were choir directors. Together they enjoyed honoring God through theatrical cantatas involving hundreds of their precious friends.
Jerry was raised in the Main Street United Methodist Church in Farmington and more recently attended Covenant Church in Fairmont.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dora Ann Pitzer; his children, Devorah Dawn Grunow and husband Bryan of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jay Daniel Pitzer and wife Lisa of Franklinton, North Carolina; and his brother, Jack Adrian Pitzer and wife Mary of Maryland. He is also survived by four granddaughters, who were the apple of his eye, Jordan Haley Pitzer, Jenna Lee Pitzer, Dreyahna Inez Grunow and Noa Adelaide Grunow.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hutson Funeral Home of Farmington. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Farmington with Dr. Margaret Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Farmington.
