James's Story

James Keith Rogers, 85, of Fairmont passed on Saturday, July 29, 2017 due to complications from COPD. He was surrounded by loving family and passed away peacefully. He was born in Meadowdale, WV on October 6, 1931, a son of the late Arthur Clay Rogers and Helen (Malone) Rogers.

James was raised on a dairy farm, and attended a 2-room school in his youth. He was blessed with a large loving family of 4 sisters and 3 brothers. He graduated from East Fairmont High School, class of 1949.

He served proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He served as Crew Chief on an F-80 Type Fighter which flew 100 combat missions. Due to his untiring efforts and devotion to duty, he was able to make this record without a single abort; a true Patriot.

In 1961, he moved to Alaska with his late wife, Dorothy Rogers, and their children.
Jim founded Rogers Electric in 1968 operating out of a trailer and using a 1/2-ton pick-up for transportation. He grew the company working on a wide variety of commercial and residential installations such as the Alaskan Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay.

He retired to Colorado and then later to the coast of Oregon with his wife Marian, where he worked at Scenic Shores as a Security Manager. When she passed in 2007, he decided to move back to West Virginia to be with family. He loved to travel and hike, and was a devoted and loving father.

He is survived by his son, Brian David Rogers of Eagle River, AK; his daughters Marjorie Anne Crain of Anchorage, AK,
Linda Libertini and husband John of Bellingham, WA, and Valerie Rogers and Michael Apau of Rainier, WA; grandchildren Daniel and Sebastian Libertini, Heather Cosidetto and husband Stefan Morales, Chris Ferreira, Brian James Rogers, Anna Marie Rogers; Great Grandchildren, Kiahla and Raelin Rogers and Felix and Clio Morales-Cosidetto; his sister, Carolyn Young; brother-in-law Delbert Mahaffey and his wife Mary Jo, and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marian Rogers, his former wife and mother of his children, Dorothy Rogers; his brothers Frank, Maxwell, Arthur "Ike", and sisters Mary Ellen Huber, Maude Smith-Urse, Ruth Mahaffey and son-in-law George Crain.

Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Friday from 11 am to 12 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 12:00 pm, with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Military honors with flag folding will be provided by the Marion County Veteran's Council Honor Guard.
