Jack was a lifelong resident of the area and son of John K. Smith and Blanche B. Fleming.
He was preceded in death by wives, Opal Hardway and Emogene Jones, plus his son, John C. Smith of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Surviving are his daughter, Cathy in Florida, and son, Alan in Kentucky.
He was an avid outdoorsman, musician, leather craftsman, jewelry maker, woodworker, mechanic and artist who retired from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources as a wildlife officer.
He was proud of serving his country doing two tours in the Vietnam War as a Seabee combat engineer.
He passed in the loving care of Fitzwater's ASLF.
