Harold R. Deems, 95, of Shinnston, passed away Monday (Dec. 5, 2016) at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Home in Clarksburg.
He was born May 25, 1921, on Saltwell Road, a son of the late Benjamin H. Deems and Nancy Louise McDonald Deems Smith.
Harold is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Deems, whom he married June 25, 1942.
Also surviving are his is son, Paul F. Deems and wife Barbara Wilson Deems; one daughter, Deborah K. Loss and husband Donald (Bill) Loss; daughter-in-law, Melody A. Deems; his half-sister, Mary Susan Ash and husband, Wayne Ash; grandsons, James (Jay) R. Deems and wife Lisa R. Deems, Benjamin A. Loss and wife Bethanie Loss, Jeremy Deems and Shawn M. Schulte; granddaughters, Shawn R. Martin and husband Bruce Martin, Stacy L. Gola and husband Dominick Gola, Christa C. Kwiatkowski and husband Adam Kwiatkowski and Britteny Deems; great-grandchildren, Justin W. Schulte, Matthew T. Green, Andrew P. Schulte, Becky A. Deems, Ethan M. Gola, Jared A. Gola, Kaylie A. Kwiatkowski, Gracely K. Gola, Vayda E. Loss and Aiden Deems; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Deems was preceded in death by one son, James A. Deems; one brother, Charles Deems; one great-grandson; one special uncle, John McDonald; and a special aunt, Braxie Harbert.
Mr. Deems was a retired miner from Consol Energy, Robinson Run Mine, Clise's Garage, Enterprise, Craig Motors, Fairmont, Fairmont Supply. He was a member of the Coon's Run Baptist Church and was on the Board of Trustees. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, doing maintenance work at the church building and helping his neighbors.
Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harmer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Max (Sonny) Palmer officiating.
