Tilford Geraldine "Gerrie" Morris, 87, of Scratchers Run Road, passed away Friday (Dec. 30, 2016) at her home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
She was born Aug. 27, 1929, a daughter of the late Frank and Opal (Smyth) Bunner.
Gerrie was a devoted wife, loving mother and homemaker who was happiest when surrounded by family. She served as president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Winfield District Volunteer Fire Department as well as a dispatcher for more than 30 years. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Nebo Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting and embroidery. She loved cats, cardinals and the color red.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Morris and his wife Maria of Fairmont, Kevin Morris and his wife Terry of Fairmont, and Marvin Morris of Fairmont; and one daughter Karen Moore of Morgantown. She is also survived by two brothers, Camden Bunner and his wife Carolyn, Edwin Lee "Fleek" Bunner and his wife Sandra; one sister Nancy Cottrell and her husband Leo; and one brother-in-law Harold "Bucky" Rush.
She was a caring grandmother with five grandsons, Chad Morris and his wife Valery, Greg Morris, Casey Morris and his wife Shannon, Justin Morris and his wife Amber, and David Davis and his wife Misty; and five granddaughters, Christy Cumberledge and husband Jeff, Natalie Summers and husband Mike, Megan Morris, Devon Davis, and Brooke Ebbert and husband Michael. She also has 17 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ryleigh and Jenna Morris; Autumn Cumberledge; Allen Perrine; Miranda Martin; Juliana, Miley and Marissa Summers; Lillian and Alexandra Davis; Layla, Paige, Claire and DJ Emerson; and Jude and Grant Morris. Gerrie also had many caring nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and love of her life, George H. Morris; sisters Jean Graves, Dortha Mae Stewart and Tricia Rush; sister-in-law Elsie Hawkins; brother-in-laws Walter Graves, Jess Stewart, and Howard "Happy" Hawkins; granddaughter Maria Morris; great-grandson Evan Morris; son-in-law Randy Moore; and a dear friend, Bertie Long.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care as well as Gerrie's dedicated caregivers: Carol Hudson, Linda Thompson, and others.
Friends and family may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The Funeral Service will be at 11a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Minister Norman Floyd officiating.
