Gary "Gene"'s Story
Gary "Gene" Postlethwait, 69, of Mannington, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2018) at Nella's Personal Care Home in Elkins following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 20, 1949 in Burton, a son of Willavene Henderson Postlethwait of Morgantown, and the late John Lloyd Postlethwait.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Air Force. Gene was a coal miner, having retired from Federal No. 2 Mine. He later worked as an escort driver for O.S.I., a job he really loved. He enjoyed horses, motorcycles, farming, and was also a certified electrician. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mannington.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his three children, Jacob Eugene (Amy) Postlethwait, Shinnston, Angel Marie (Donald) Fluharty, Mannington, and William Lewis (Debra) Postlethwait, Shinnston; two brothers, Richard (Barbara) Postlethwait, Idaho, and John (Helen) Postlethwait, Mannington; 10 grandchildren, Hannah Crofford, Sierra and Alivia Postlethwait, Cody (Kaitlyn Jarvis), Dawson, Cheyenne and Dalton Postlethwait, Briget and Richard Nichols, and Trenton Hickman; one great-grandchild, Miley Marie Fluharty; the mother of his children, Dottie Postlethwait; and several extended family members.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St., Mannington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Mannington Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with President William Foley officiating. Interment will be in the East View Cemetery near Hundred.
