Garnett Louise Dean
She was born May 26, 1924, in Anmoore, daughter of the late Rev. Raymond Hinkle and the late Rev. Opal Radabaugh Hinkle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Virgil H. Dean, whom she married Sept. 22, 1940.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Louise (Dean) and Tom Denniston, of Fairmont; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Hale Dean and Min Dean, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Rickey Reed Dean and Doris Dean, of Manassas, Virginia; one sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Hilda June) Bates, of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Zelma Hinkle, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Terry Eugene Dean, Trisha Ann (Dean) Murrill, Sonja Dawn Raddish and boyfriend Andrew Underwood, Heather Renae (Dean) Merritt, James Hale Dean, Mark James Dean and Andrew Joseph Dean; two step-granddaughters, Linda Denniston, Michelle DuBois; four step-grandsons, Thomas, Danny, Rick and Scott Denniston; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 14 step-great grandchildren; one step- great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved church family.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Mark Earl Dean; three sisters; one brother; daughter-in-law, Lois Jean (Vincent) Dean; one grandson, Douglas Edward Dean; and one great-grandson, Terry Eugene Dean, Jr.
Along with her husband, the Rev. Virgil Dean, they founded Nutter Fort Union Mission Church (1956), Viola Union Mission Church (1961), Fairmont, Swisher Hill Union Mission Church (1965), Fairmont, where she is fondly known as "The Matriarch." She was active in the Union Mission Conference, as a Sunday school teacher, director of Vacation Bible School, and member of the choir and Ladies Circle where she created and coordinated special handmade craft items for various functions.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston. The body will lie in state for one hour before the funeral service which will start at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Swisher Hill Union Mission Church with Rev. Chad Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at the Kesling Mill Cemetery near Buckhannon. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Swisher Hill Union Mission Church at 15 Koon's Run Road Fairmont, WV 26554.
