Flora Darlene Latocha, 73, of Fairview, passed away Sunday (Dec. 17, 2017). She was born July 19, 1944 in Fairmont, daughter of the late Melvin (Mel) and Ruth Houghton Decker.
Darlene graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1962 and worked at Westinghouse Electric. She was a volunteer teacher's aide in Fairview for the Marion County Board of Education. She was a member of and attended the Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Mannington.
Darlene was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother, and was known as "Granny" to everyone. Little ones, teenagers and adults all loved her, and she had a special way of communicating with everyone. She especially loved all of her grandchildren, her sons and their families.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, leatherwork, painting scenery pictures, and especially camping at Joe Buck's camp in Tucker County, Summersville Lake, Glendale Lake in Pennsylvania and Houcks Cabin in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Darlene also donated and made a lot of quilts and blankets for breast cancer, made hats for newborn babies at Fairmont General Hospital and enjoyed reading. She always had a book around to read from the library.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Joseph J. Latocha, whom she married on Jan. 18, 1964 at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Grant Town by Father Harold Moore; a sister, Marlene Jackson; and her loving family, Michael Joseph and wife Beverly (Missy) and Kurt, Kyle, and Kasey; Stephen Mathew and Tiffany, Brandon, Kailee Jo, Emilee, and Poppy; and John Thomas and wife Joni, Chelsi, Abby, and Quint.
The family would like to thank all of the hospice nurses, aides and staff for their loving support and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Mannington with Father Vincy Illickal officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, Fairview.
