Fairy's Story

Fairy Mae Franks, 84, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday (Nov. 5, 2017) at the Tygart Center at Fairmont.
She was born in Fairmont on Dec. 16, 1932, a daughter of the late Joseph E. Corbin and Myrtle E. (Rudy) Corbin.
Fairy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clarence Curtis Franks, in July 2000.
She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She had worked for the Owens-Illinois glass plant in Fairmont until it closed. She most enjoyed cooking, caring for and spending time with her loving family and her beloved companion dog, Cody. Mrs. Franks is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William "Bobby" and Cathy Franks of Grafton; two daughters and sons-in-law, G. Ruth and Frank Conner of Fairmont and Regina M. and Kenneth Daniel of Mannington; five grandchildren, Christopher Carpenter, Jack Carpenter, Franklin Conner, Jr., James Conner and his wife Ella and Jessica Kelly and her husband Mike; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Karen Garrity, Ruth Harris and her husband Howard, Edith Stacy and her husband Russell all of Fairmont and June Smith and her husband Virgil of Ohio; her brother, Edwin Corbin and his wife Sundae of Texas; and several caring nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Fairy was preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred Corbin, Randy Corbin, Wayman Corbin, Bill Corbin and Fred Corbin; a sister, Dorla Phillips; and two brothers in infancy.
Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today, 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
