Emily Ellen Ice Cather Emily Ellen Ice Cather was born on Jan. 17, 1929, in Fairmont.
She was the daughter of Herschel Conaway Ice and Genevieve Stephens Ice.
Emily died on Sept. 2, 2016, at her home in Clarksburg, at the age of 87.
She was predeceased by her husband, H. Dotson Cather of Clarksburg, on April 2, 2016; and her grandson, Alexander Goff Cather.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Stephens Ice and his wife Sherwood Ice of New Orleans, Louisiana; as well as nephew, Robert Stephens Ice Jr., his wife Bonnie Ice and their children, Finley Elizabeth, William Alexander and Matthew Conaway Ice; and nephew, Eric Lampton Taylor Ice and his daughter, Taylor Breeden Ice of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Emily also leaves her stepchildren and their spouses, William Goff Cather in Clarksburg, Laura Cather Pears and Daniel H. Pears in Houston, Texas, and Caroline Cather Aras and John A. Aras in Annapolis, Maryland.
She is furthermore survived by three grandchildren, Lindsay Cather Barnes and her husband Matthew Michael in Lost Creek and Evan Adler Aras and Emily Despard Aras in Washington, D.C.
Emily lived the early part of her life in Fairmont, graduating from West Virginia University in Morgantown, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and was a member of the DAR and Junior League.
She moved to New Orleans in the early 1950s and was married to John Walker Read III until the time of his death. In the early 1980s, Emily returned to Fairmont to be with her parents. In 1994, she married Dotson Cather and enjoyed more than 25 years of happiness.
Descending from the early pioneering Ice family, a direct descendant of the storied Indian Billy, Emily was creative, full of life, with a unique sense of humor and style. She will be missed by all who truly knew her.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg with the Reverend Nora Becker presiding. Private interment will take place at the Ice Cemetery in Barrackville.
