Elizabeth Ruth Pettigrew


Elizabeth Ruth Pettigrew, 96, of Williamstown, WV, formerly of Fairmont, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Arbors of Marietta. She was born on April 8, 1922, a daughter of the late John T. Schlager and Elzada (Kiger) Schlager.

Ruth graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1940, and later went on to work as a C&P Telephone Operator, at Sears & Roebuck, Owens-Illinois, and as a Realtor. Ruth was a member of The Baptist Temple for 73 years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Branty H. Pettigrew in June of 2009 and a son, Mark Pettigrew, who passed in 1997.

Ruth was also preceded in death by sisters: Helen Jones, Elladean Thornberg, and Goldie Mahaffey.

Ruth is survived by a son, Randy Pettigrew and daughter-in-law Nita of Williamstown; grandchildren: Tamila Osburn, of Georgetown, Florida, Stacy Leach and her husband Chris, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lisa Montgomery and her husband Steve, of Williamstown, and Melissa Pettigrew, of Morgantown.

Ruth is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Alexandra Osburn, Connor Leach, Corey Leach, Carter Montgomery, Gracie Montgomery, Leila Pettigrew, and Malachi Burcks.

The family would like to thank Brown Davis Mission Circle, W.W.F.G. Circle, and Carl Cain Class for the many cards over the years. A very special thanks to Hannah's House, Arbors, and Hospice all of Marietta, Ohio, for caring for and loving Ruth.

Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., with services starting at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Dr. Robert Allan Copenhaver officiating. Interment will follow at WV National Cemetery in Grafton.

Sorry about your mom, I remember her & your dad, I used to eat & spend time at your home on east park ave, abt 60 yrs ago, times fly. My wife mentioned you, saying your a great person, Nita to. Your mom had a great 94 Years, i’ll Take that. Bless your mom, may she Rest In Peace & enjoy heaven. Randy/Nita love you.❤️❤️
