Elizabeth "Betsy" F. Haislip, 66, of Fairmont, passed away Saturday (April 2, 2016) at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
Betsy was born April 13, 1949, at Washington Hospital, Washington, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Robert Joseph Kovatch and Margaret Giovaninni Kovatch. In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, her body was donated to the Human Gift Registry.
Betsy is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Charles "Mike" E. Haislip; a son, Robert Charles Haislip of Fairmont; a daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth Haislip of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a stepson, Col. Charles G. Haislip D.O. and wife, Bridget, of Glennville, Georgia; a grandson, Christian Robert Haislip of Fairmont; and a stepgrandson, Charles "Mac" McKenzie Haislip of Glennville, Georgia. Betsy is also survived by sisters, Kathleen "Kathy" Fox and husband, John, of Forest Hills, Pennsylvania, Terri Thompson and Russ Reynolds of Chapin, South Carolina, and Karin Stein and husband, Ron, of Houston, Pennsylvania. Also survived by her is her brother-in-law, Dr. Bruce Haislip and wife, Mary Anna, of Wintersville, Ohio; nieces, Tracey Jackson and husband, Bill of Springfield, Ohio, Mary Craig Keener and husband, Tony, of Grafton, Sarah Craig of Grafton, Caron Gavrish and husband, Bill, of Irwin, Pennsylvania, and Sara Stein of Houston, Pennsylvania; by nephews, Dr. Michael Craig of Morgantown, Ryan Joseph Stein of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Brian Haislip of Winterville, Ohio; by great-nieces, Mya Keener and Sydney Craig of Grafton, and Maddie and Julie Gavrish of Irwin, Pennsylvania; by great-nephews, Colton and Cole Jackson of Springfield, Ohio, and Zach Keener of Grafton; and a long-time family friend, Margi Gotses of Fairmont.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law, Dr. Nancy Craig; and her friend, David Craig.
Betsy adored her family and friends, and was a mentor to many children. She loved helping all those involved in her life and volunteering for a variety of local service organizations. Betsy had a passion for reading and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing golf and knitting. Betsy was an excellent cook. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, president of the Marion County Medical Auxiliary, office manager of her husband's E.N.T. practice, owner of Diet Center of Fairmont and a member of the Fairmont Hills Garden Club. Betsy was a graduate of West Virginia University with a master's degree in psychology.
A memorial service in celebration of Betsy's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 23, 2016) at Christ Episcopal Church, 405 9th Street, Fairmont, WV, with Bishop L. Alexander Black officiating.
