Dessie's Story

Dessie Arnett Pachuta, 97, of Clarkston, Michigan, and formerly of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesda, Jan. 23, 2018. She was born in Fairmont on Aug. 26, 1920, a daughter of the late Dessaix and Nora Arnett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joe Pachuta, in September of 2000.
Dessie retired from Owens-Illinois after 28 years of service. Following her retirement, Dessie and Joe embarked on many travel adventures that took them throughout North America and Europe. She also enjoyed the outdoors and camping back home in West Virginia, and she and Joe made many lifelong friends along the way.
Dessie was a talented artist and particularly enjoyed painting, ceramics and sewing. She also loved to cook for her family and friends and took great pride in her garden. Above all, Dessie was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed mastering her computer and often utilized the internet, email, and even social media to keep in touch with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two loving sons and their spouses, Joseph and Jean Pachuta, of Clarkston, Michigan; and Frank and Barbara Pachuta, of Fairmont; four grandchildren: Mary Sabio and husband, Jeremy, of Houston, Texas; Sharon Paquette and husband, Gerald, of Ontario, Canada; Michael Pachuta and his fiance, Courtney, of Berkley, Michigan; and Stacy Wise and husband, Mark, of Morgantown; 12 great-grandchildren: Samantha Dignazio, Rachael Dignazio, Jeanna Dignazio, Lexi Dignazio, Korie Paquette, Joshua Paquette, Michael Pachuta Jr., Stephanie Pachuta, Gabriel Pachuta, Danielle Pachuta, Hailey Wise and Frank Wise; and one great-great-granddaughter, Emmalin Dignazio.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dessie was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters: Chester Arnett, Nellie Arnett, Lester Arnett, Clarence Arnett, Albert Arnett, George Arnett, Ira Arnett, Maude Grace Arnett and Edgar Arnett.
Friends and family may visit from 4-8 p.m. today at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 in the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
