Dennis H. Furbee, 69, of Panther Lick Run outside of Grant Town, passed from this life Wednesday (Aug. 16, 2017) surrounded by his family.
He was born in the Norway Community of Fairmont, on March 18, 1948, a son of the late William F. and Ethel F. Bailey Furbee.
Dennis was a Methodist by faith. He was a road and highway construction worker for Harman Construction Co. for more than 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, story telling, sawing lumber at his saw mill, traveling out West, visiting with neighbors and friends, watching television, reading and wood working.
He farmed for many years, raising cattle, sheep and Tennessee Walker horses. He and his family operated Furbee's Riding Stables for many years. He loved spending time with his family and telling them stories. He especially enjoyed visiting with and teasing his grandchildren.
Mr. Furbee is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Frances Wolfe Furbee; his three daughters, Evelyn (Alec) McCallister of McCurdysville, Bonnie Viani of Grafton and Cindy (Mark) King of Panther Lick Run; his son, Andy (Joy) Furbee of Panther Lick Run; one sister, Mary Ann Pyles of Indiana; and five grandchildren, Kaleb and Garett Jolliffe, Jakob and Caroline Furbee and Emily Viani.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James H. and Terry Lee Furbee, and one brother-in-law, Perry Pyles.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at the Frey Home For Funerals (Historic Chapel), 320 Madison St., Fairmont. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Furbee family cemetery.
