Caryl's Story

Text size

On Saturday (Jan. 7, 2017) the Lord called Caryl Taylor Burke of Fairmont home as she peacefully entered eternity surrounded by her cherished daughters at the age of 90.
Caryl was a loving and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, but most importantly a follower of Christ.
She was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Porter, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Carlton Cecil Taylor and Grace Doyle Taylor.
She was raised in the Gary, Indiana, area alongside her beloved late sister, Beatrice. She graduated from the Gregg School of Stenography in Chicago. Caryl was a well-known presence as a court stenographer in the Kanawha County Circuit Court for more than 20 years. Caryl will be remembered as someone who walked in love and lived in faith, treasuring the word of God. The love of her family was only surpassed by her love for the Lord.
Caryl is survived by her three loving daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and James Colbert of Rachel, Sandy Smith of Martinsburg and Sharon and Angelo Mancuso of Egg Harbor, New Jersey.
Caryl will also be forever missed by her nine grandchildren, Peter Clay, Andrea (Strickland) Simms, Rachel Strickland, Sarah (Clay) Wilson, William Strickland, Kristin Mancuso, Jared Strickland, Kaitlin Mancuso and Ryan Smith; and seven great-grandchildren.
