Carol's Story

Carol Ann Cortez Wallman, 78, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away suddenly Friday (July 28, 2017). She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence "Larry" A. Wallman for 57 years.

She was born May 21, 1939 in Shinnston, a daughter of the late Tony V. Cortez and Helen Curtis Cortez. Carol was a faithful and active member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Lynchburg, a graduate of Fairmont State University and West Virginia University, and a retired educator.

She enjoyed volunteering at the church, with Central Hospice and the American Red Cross, playing bridge with her friends and traveling. Carol was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and special friend to so many, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her two sons, John M. Wallman and his wife Mary of Forest and Thomas A. Wallman and his wife, Sandra of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Matthew Wallman and his wife Kathryn, Michael Wallman and his fiance' Kaleigh BeCraft, Caroline Wallman, Jacob Wallman and Joshua Wallman; a brother, Michael A. Cortez and his wife Sandra of Lavergne, Tennessee; a brother in law, John P. Wallman and his wife Dewillis of Dade City, Florida; her loving and faithful canine companion, Scooby; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial funeral mass will be conducted on Thursday at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church by Monsignor Michael McCarron with inurnment to follow in the church columbarium.

The family will receive their friends prior to the service starting at 11 a.m., and then again at the reception following the service in More Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests to please consider the St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church for the Stain Glass Window Fund or the Renovation Fund, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502, in loving memory of Carol.
