Betty Irene Johnson, 85, of Montana Community of Fairmont, passed away on Monday (May 30, 2016) at Pierpont Center at Fairmont.
She was born in Marion County, on Oct. 26, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank Hixen and Sadie Menefee Hixen.
She was the youngest of her family and was preceded in death by six sisters, Eleanor Beatty, Rosella Pyles, Lucille Nay, Wandena Gillespie, Catherine Anderson and Freda Merriman.
Betty married Cleo Johnson in 1950. They had four children that died in infancy; twin sons, Frances and Samuel Johnson; and daughters, Linda and Marjorie Johnson.
Betty and Cleo both worked at the Westinghouse and North American Philips. Betty worked 50-plus years before she retired. They both loved and cared for all animals. They had many pets they loved throughout their lives.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Bonnie Taylor, Candi Arnett, Janice Davis, Charles Johnson, Diana Munza, Sharon Smiers, Samantha Oliverio and Bobby Oliverio.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, Barbara and Bob Stewart; close friends and neighbors, Joe and Freda Volek and Becky Saurborn, her friend and hairdresser.
Family and friends will remember Betty as a fashionable lady that always looked impeccable from her hair to her shoes. She loved conversations about animals, politics, medicine and the Lord. All who loved Betty should feel comfort in knowing that she has joined her husband Cleo and their babies.
Friends and family may call from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with her nephew, Pastor Bill Taylor. Interment services will follow at the Montana Mines Cemetery.
