Betty Jean's Story
Betty Jean "King" Henderson, 79, of Mockingbird Lane, Mt. Harmony Community, passed away Saturday afternoon in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
She was born May 31, 1938 in Morgan's Ridge Community, daughter of the Marner and Opal Moran King.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Paul Henderson, who died in 2011.
Mrs. Henderson was very proud of being a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School in 1956. She worked several years at Fairmont General Hospital as a cook and baker. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She truly enjoyed family activities and spending much time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her travels to Colorado with her husband John. Betty enjoyed gardening and quilting. She lovingly cared for her husband in his later years.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Cindy and Gary Ely of Fairmont; four sons and their spouses, James and Rose Marie Henderson of Fairmont, John and Annette Henderson of Elkins, Ed and Chris Henderson of Grove City, Pa. and Scott and Denise Henderson of Belle Vernon, Pa.; a sister and her husband, Charlotte and Ronnie Vincent of Fairmont; two brothers, Edward King of Fairmont and Jim and wife Sharon King of Fairmont; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucretia Butcher, Sarah Ellen Stevens and Jocelyn Rowan, and a sister-in-law, Gay King.
Family and friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with Pastor Claude Kinty officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
