Bernice Evangeline Fortner, 94, of White Hall, passed away peacefully at home Monday (Oct. 30, 2017).
She was the beloved wife of the late Harold "Bud" Fortner with whom she shared 55 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1999.
Born in Beverly, Bernice was the daughter of the late Early Thomas and Monna Roxie Sponaugle Judy.
She was a graduate of Franklin High School in 1941. She was employed by Westinghouse Electric and later Owens-Illinois Glass Co. for 37 years. After retirement, Bernice enjoyed being a housewife and became an avid bowler competing in many bowling competitions.
Mrs. Fortner is survived by one son, with whom she resided, Harold "Sonny" Fortner; two grandsons, Christopher and wife Lisa of Morgantown and Jason Fortner of Monongah; one great-granddaughter, Aubrianna Fortner; two sisters, Ina and husband Richard Kuehl of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Patricia and husband Harold Sponaugle of Harrisonburg, Virginia; three brothers, Gayle and Hester Judy of Luray, Virginia, Earl Judy of Warrenton, Virginia, and Gary and Carole Faye Judy of Lexington, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Judy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Bud" Fortner; a granddaughter, Sarah Fortner; one sister, Ethal Hall; and three brothers, Guy, Kermit and Richard Judy.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor David Huckins officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in White Hall.
