Bazil "Bud" Layman, 92, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday (Oct. 22, 2017) at Bridgeport Heath Care Center.
He was born April 22, 1925 in Fairmont, son of the late Jay Curtis and Mary Estella Layman.
Bud was an avid artist; he worked with oils, water colors and pen and ink. He worked as a tank foreman for 25 years at Owens-Illinois. Bud was a veteran of the U.S Navy, he served during WWII on PT Boat 326. Bud was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
Bud is survived by seven children, Curtis "Curt" Layman and wife Charlotte of Richmond, Texas, Mary Layman and husband David Bohnke of Fairmont, Paula Wells and husband Brad of Southport, South Carolina, Cathe DeVito of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, Tina Hull and husband Jon of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Mark Layman of Bruceton Mills and Anita Stevens and husband Shawn of Fairmont; nine grandchildren, Bridget Secreto and husband Mike, Leanne Rerko and husband Justin, Justin Wells and wife Stephanie, Anne Marie DeVito, Michael DeVito and wife Dena, Kelsea Hull, Katherine Hull, Erika Vandergrift and husband C.J. and Ryan Stevens; and four great-grandchildren, Joseph Secreto, Nicholas Secreto, Emma Rerko and Jake Wells.
In addition to his parents, Bazil is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine (Francesco) Layman; and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter the Fishermans Catholic Church with Father Shaji Thomas as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairmont where Marion County Honor Guard will conduct full military rites. The family has requested to emit any floral arrangements.
