Agnes's Story

Agnes Bernadine Harden Porter, 92, of Fairmont, passed from this life Wednesday (Dec. 13, 2017) at her home under hospice care.
She was born in Monongah, on Oct. 10, 1925, a daughter of the late Mary Killeen and Garnet O. Harden.
She was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and graduated from Monongah High School and Bowling Green Business College. She worked as a secretary for the Consolidation Coal Co. in the Watson Building prior to marriage. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service as postmaster of the Barrackville Post Office after 20 years of service; she was appointed as the Women's Program Representative in West Virginia.
She was president of the Fairmont General Hospital Volunteer Association and was on the Board of Directors for the Marion County Senior Center. She also served as president of St. Frances Cabrini Guild at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Her hobbies included bridge, reading and traveling.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Raymond "Bud" Porter, whom she married on May 4, 1946; two daughters, Mary Pat (Dan) Cowan of North Carolina, and Barbara Huffman of Nashville, Tennessee; her grandchildren are Allison and Dan Beck of Clark, New Jersey, Erin and Dave Gobiszek, Winston Salem, North Carolina, Casey and Charles Smith of Bend, Oregon, twin grandsons, Jason and Kyle Huffman, and granddaughter Lindsay Huffman; great-grandsons, Gray Gobiszek and Connor Beck; great-granddaughter, Chloe Gobiszek.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Porter; two sisters, Marjorie Porter and Katherine Morrison; and one brother, Douglas Harden.
Bernadine's family would like express a special "thank you" for her wonderful caregivers Rebecca Shroyer, Megan Sillman, Tina Stutler and Sabrina Ri and the West Virginia Caring nurses Becky and Hollie.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Shaji Thomas as Celebrant. Her procession will line up in the Frey Home for Funerals parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
